Yesterday, when Kirsten was still 3, I asked her if she would still snuggle with me when she turned 4. After a brief moment, she laughed and said of course, mommy!! I asked her what about at age 7 . . . 10 . . . . 15? She assured me yes, but I'm not so sure . . .
This past week I read an article in Good Housekeeping magazine (I know, I was reading non school/educational related material!!!) about a mom's relationship with her daughter, and the changes that took place from kindergarten to high school. As I think constantly about what it means to be a mom to girls, I can't help but to think about what my relationship will be with my girls in 5 years . . . 10 . . . 15?
This morning Kirsten woke up and she said "mommy, do you still want me to be 3?" (referring to my constant pleas to please stay 3) and after my smile, she said "too bad, I'm 4!"
Kirsten is my fireball, trouble disguised with adorable short curly hair and big blue eyes, a smile and a nighttime/morning snuggler that melts away the sister fighting that goes on during the day, a piece of work with a sense of humor.
So, another year of birthdays is past. Another year of health, growth and learning for my girls, and for their mom.
Happy 4th birthday Kirsten Ruth! You will always be my love bug!

Happy Birthday Kirsten! I cannot believe that you are already 4 years old! You were so tiny the last time that I saw you! I am looking forward to seeing you in about a week! :) Hope that your fourth birthday is filled with laughter, love, and lots and lots of hugs!
ReplyDeleteNaomi, I know that each birthday must be bitter sweet to you. Your sweet girls are growing just like they should. They are learning and their personalities are developing, and as you watch them grow you are amazed and proud of who they are becoming. But I imagine that it is hard to say goodbye to the last stage of their lives before embracing and enjoying the next! Just wanted to let you know that I think that your girls are beautiful and that they are lucky to have such a great mom!! Love you...really looking forward to seeing you!
It's been such a joy to watch your sweet girls grow up! I have to force myself to slow down now and then so I can savor these days--every year brings new and exciting things in the lives of our kids though. Happy Birthday Kirsten!
